Elder Mediation

At a time in their lives when tranquility should be the rule, elders and their families are often embroiled in conflict. Like an infection untreated, conflict may grow until it leaves permanent scars. Mediation is a way to treat conflicts that attacks the infection rather than the patient.

Hewitt and Hewitt Mediators are experienced in mediating court cases, bringing parties together in a lawsuit and achieving settlement, thereby saving them time, money, and heartache.

Before he became a court-appointed mediator, Joe B. Hewitt served as a pastor of churches in the Dallas area for 39 years. “I mediated for years before I knew what to call it,” he said. His experience in family counseling and marriage counseling made him a natural as a professional mediator. He also did marriage enrichment and parenting seminars.

Marona Posey Hewitt was a medical technologist, high school teacher, and practicing attorney before being trained as a mediator. “I wasn’t confrontational enough as a lawyer; I enjoy being a peacemaker much more,” she said.

Some example situations in which mediation is called for:

None of these, or other conflicts, need go to court. If one party files a lawsuit, most courts will order the parties to mediation prior to trial to try to settle in mediation. It is far better, and much less expensive, to call in a mediator before the conflict grows.

The Fees page in this website regards court-ordered and corporate out-of-court mediation. Elder mediation fees are lower, based on ability to pay, ranging from $75 to $150 per hour per party.
